NETs@Helmholtz Retreat 2025

The NETs@Helmholtz 2025 Retreat took place on 27 October in Munich.

This annual event, organised by the NETs@Helmholtz Research School, offered graduates a unique opportunity to explore the interface between geothermal energy and direct air capture technology.

The retreat focused on technical learning and personal growth, with workshops, excursions and discussions. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of Iceland's geothermal resources, which are crucial for DAC technology, especially for providing low-cost heat for regenerating DAC sorbents and enabling permanent CO2 storage through basalt formations. The retreat also fostered a supportive environment for discussions about mental health and personal relationships, while providing an inspiring backdrop for reflecting on the harmony between technology and nature.
