Equal Opportunities

Diversity and inclusion are core values of the Research School and characterise the collaboration and exchange with colleagues. To this end, workshops on various topics relating to supervision, diversity and inclusion are offered for supervisors and doctoral candidates.

How do we achieve this?

  • Financial Support: Fundingis available to assist with child care and parental leave, enabling equal participation for all researchers.
  • D&I Statement: A clear and concise statement is published on the website, outlining the research school’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment.
  • Behavioral Expectations: A document is provided to define expected behaviors and guidelines for fostering respect, fairness, and inclusivity within the community.
  • Recruitment: The recruitment process is designed to be fair and unbiased, promoting equal opportunities for candidates from diverse backgrounds.
  • Training: Workshops and training opportunities are offered to PIs and PhD students covering supervision, diversity and inclusion, such as unconscious bias training, prevention against sexual violence, working in / leading diverse teams, and sensitizing for diversity in science)

Empowerment and Inclusion of Early Career Researchers and Underrepresented Groups

The DACStorE Research School is committed to actively promoting empowerment and inclusion—especially for early career researchers and members of underrepresented groups in science. Our goal is to amplify their voices, enhance their visibility, and foster a supportive, inclusive community.

To achieve this, we offer the following targeted formats:

  • Success Teams – Peer mentoring in small groups to support individual growth and mutual learning

  • Regular Coffee Meetings – Informal exchanges with the coordination team to gather feedback, opinions, and preferences on current and planned activities

  • Opinion Polls – Structured input opportunities that allow participants to help shape the program and contribute to its continuous development

  • Active Participation in Project Meetings – Early career researchers present their research, share their perspectives, and gain experience through discussions and Q&A sessions, strengthening their roles as experts

  • Representation on the Research School Steering Committee – Involvement in strategic decision-making processes to actively shape the DACStorE Research School

These measures help to build self-confidence, increase visibility, and strengthen the networks of young researchers—both within and beyond the DACStorE community. Their voices are heard, their perspectives are valued, and their contributions are integrated into decision-making processes. In this way, we create a community where diversity is recognized and nurtured as a strength.
